Appearing for MRCOG-2 Examination?
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) is an international organization that drafts a curriculum that enhances obstetrician and gynaecology (Ob & Gyn) training which ultimately leads to an improvement in women health care system. The MRCOG exam is composed of three different exams for assessment as:
• Part 1 MRCOG - It is a written examination that examines knowledge of basic and clinical science related to a subject.
• Part 2 MRCOG - It is also concluded in written format for determining application knowledge of the candidates.
• Part 3 MRCOG - It is clinical skills exam that evaluates the candidates’ core clinical skills.
Some of the readers might have appeared in the MRCOG-2 examination that held on July 2018 and awaiting the result that will be declared on August 1, 2018. While others are planning for appearing in January 2019 exam for which registration will start from August 30, 2018. The result for candidates who have appeared in the July 2018 examination will be emailed to their respective email-id through the Examinations Department of RCOG by 4 pm as per UK timings.
The RCOG follows standard setting procedure that is used to define levels of proficiency and scores regarding these levels. As standard setting is significant component of test development procedure, RCOG incorporates different approaches for evaluation such as Ebel’s method, Angoff method, and other. The MRCOG-2 examination is evaluated through combination of Angoff method and linear equation. In the Angoff method, the subject matter experts are involved as examiner such as O&G Consultants in NHS practice. The examiner estimates a proportion of competent examinees that might know the answer. These estimated ratings are averaged across raters and standard error of measurement is calculated for determining final pass marks. Linear equating approach is adopted for comparison of current results with previous year results that assists in observation of relative difficulty of the papers and candidate performance.
The candidates awaiting the result might be stressed about their results. As it is seen in several research studies that period of waiting for test results can elevate stress levels that may cause life-threatening illness. So, we would like to provide some tips regarding alleviation of stress:
• Relaxation – Different mind-relaxation techniques as meditation or breathing exercise should be adopted as they are considered as best stress management option. Mindfulness practice can decrease stress and enhance cortical connections in the brain regions.
• Physical exercise – Any time of exercise, a quick run, a brisk walk, a sprint up and down the stairs wards off tension. Stress releases several toxins and exercise facilitates depletion of these toxins.
• Avoid coffee or other sources of caffeine – Caffeine uptake should be reduced as it over-activates the nervous system that might cause panic disorders. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided as it might instigate mood swings. Candidates should eat nutritious foods that are rich in Vitamin B such as almonds as healthy food lowers anxiety level.
• Distraction – Try to indulge in different activities for distraction of mind such having a meal with family and friends, or playing a board game. Discuss your fears and worries with family and friends.
So, all the best for candidates who are looking forward for their result of MRCOG exam.
