MRCP PACES (Fast-Track)

In our previous blog, we discussed about the PACES. Now we will continue with the latest scheme launched by MRCP (UK), PACES Fast Track.

MRCP (UK) has started running a LIMITED PACES Fast Track scheme, which offers the trainees who have applied for an ST3 post an additional attempt at the PACES examination. This is one of the initiatives taken up by MRCP (UK) to aid trainees’ career progression and support run-through training. This will allow some of the candidates who are unsuccessful in their initial PACES attempt in June to August to sit for PACES a second time within the same assessment period.

The criteria for selection of candidates applying for the Fast Track applications are:

  • Those candidates who have applied for an ST3 post in the UK. These candidates must provide confirmation that they have applied for an ST3 training post due to start in August 2018. All the ST3 confirmations will be checked.
  • All the candidates must have either passed MRCP (UK) Part 2 Written Examination or have applied to sit in the first attempt of PACES in the June to August assessment period.
  • Candidates must also submit a separate application form for PACES in the June to August assessment period as outlined on the PACES application page.

Candidates who cannot apply for this scheme are:

  • Those who are on their sixth attempt at PACES in the June to August 2018 assessment period.
  • Those who hold FY1/FY2/CT1 posts.
  • Those candidates who were absent on their first attempt for PACES or withdrew their application.

Till the second half of the assessment period, the FAST TRACK places will be allocated to the candidates. A confirmation admission email will be sent to the candidate as soon as he/she activates their FAST TRACK place. The exam can be conducted across UK and the candidates should be prepared to travel anywhere in UK. The exam fees for PACES Fast Track are £657 and no payment details will be requested at the time of application. Candidates will be asked to supply their credit or debit card details by telephone while activating their Fast Track place. Payment will be processed only when a Fast Track place has been allocated to the candidate.

Fast Track application period is shorter than the main PACES application period. So the late applications will not be accepted. Applications will be considered incomplete until a separate PACES application has been made and supporting information has been received by the authority. Applicants will see an automatic confirmation after they have submitted their electronic application. An acknowledgement email from the PACES Fast Track office will be sent to the candidate within 5 working days. Eligible applicants will be placed in one of the two groups – those who will receive a provisional offer of a Fast Track place; and those placed on a waiting list. Some places may be available to those on the waiting list depending upon the uptake from the first group.

If you are allocated a Fast Track place and activate this place and make payment and then subsequently withdraw from Fast Track, please note that the usual withdrawal and refund regulations will apply and the date of activation will be considered the closing date.

There are other competitive exams beside MRCP (UK) such as Membership of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG). A course has been developed by Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers for MRCOG Part 1 and Part 2 as “Cracking MRCOG” that assists MRCOG applicants with relevant data.
