The membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI) is a recognised benchmark of excellence which is valued by the healthcare providers worldwide.
MRCPI examination for Obstetrics and Gynaecology is approved by the Medical Council of Ireland as one of the foremost knowledge-based assessment for all the students of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Ireland. The examination is divided into two parts:
1. MRCPI Part I
2. MRCPI Part II
Some of the applicants can get exempted from Part I examination if they have the following qualifications:
a. MRCOG Part I
b. MRANZCOG
c. MRNZCOG
d. MRACOG
e. FCOG
f. FCPS
g. M. Med Malaysia (O&G)
MRCPI Part II for obstetrics and gynaecology is further divided into two parts:
1. MRCPI Part II Written examination
2. MRCPI Part II OSCE/Clinical examination
MRCPI Part II Written examination
Candidates who are pursuing for MRCPI Part II written examination are eligible if:
1. They have succeeded in MRCPI Part I or they fall into the criteria of being exempted from Part I examination.
2. Candidates who have successfully completed their postgraduate training from a recognized institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
3. Presently, the candidates should complete a two year post-registration training as well in recognized posts. The posts must be recognized by the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists at RCPI.
4. If the candidate provide a testimonial from two referees who are medical practitioners and who testify that the candidate has fulfilled all the above requirements and is personally and professionally fit to sit for the examination.
The fee for the MRCPI Part II examination is €650 in Ireland, or €710 if the candidate is not from Ireland. The payment can be made through a credit or debit card, which is taken at the end of the online application process. If the candidate is from Ireland he/she can claim a refund of €450 under the HSE Clinical Course and Examination Refund Scheme.
It is held in five different locations worldwide:
• Oman
• United Arab Emirates
• India
• Ireland
• Malaysia
The documents required to be submitted by the candidates include:
• An attested copy of their primary medical degree.
• An attested copy of their Part I or equivalent qualification. For MRCOG Part I, they will need their official Part 1 Pass letter attested.
• A testimonial form signed by two referees.
• A recent colour passport-style photo (minimum resolution 100*100 pixels).
The copies of their document should be attested by the following:
• An Garda Siochana (Irish police force)
• A Commissioner for oaths
• The issuing University or Medical School
• An Irish or British Consulate
• Your Embassy or High Commissioner
• A solicitor/ notary public/ lawyer
A testimonial form should also be downloaded by the candidate and should be submitted duly filled by any two referees. The referees should be medical practitioner for at least 5 years and should be actively engaged in practice.
The MRCPI Part II written examination is held twice a year i.e. in March and September. The training of the candidates should be completed by January for the March examination and by August for the September examination.
The MRCPI Part II written examination consists of two papers:
a. Short Essay paper (2.5 hours) which consists of 6 compulsory questions which covers gynaecology, medical disorders and obstetrics.
b. MCQ paper (2 hours) and consists of 60 SBAs.
