Pre-Exam
Ideas
Because we believe in
your potential.
You are just
4 days away from your exam and you need to give your best. Though everyone by now
would have been through with their preparation and must be aware of their shortcomings
and the areas they need to focus on.
How do you actually evaluate where do
you stand?
Evaluating
yourselves is an important part of self-assessment to delineate your strong and
weak points/areas.
·
The
phrase that often comes to one’s mind is “I thought I knew it but I got blank during
the exam”. Let’s not take the exams in a wrong way by associating them with our
identity as a student. A score of 97 and we are on Cloud 9, whereas a score of 64
can send us into a deep depression. This type of thinking promotes a “Fixed Mindset”,
which prevents us from doing what we should be doing after any type of exam
performance, i.e. reviewing our mistakes, working on our weaknesses, and
getting better.
·
The
“Perform Like an Athlete” Metaphor: That’s a great idea but let’s determine how
does it help? What do we usually do to study for exams?
- Review our notes.
- Go to review sessions.
- Do tons and tons of practice problems.
To
be more specific, “the more the better, right”? Try smarter plans to work out
your syllabus. Setting defined criteria is a mistake because ‘knowing a little
about a lot’ and ‘knowing a lot about little’ always makes difference both in
our and the winner’s approach.
·
The
Exam Prep Cycle: The 5-step process for making the actual test not sound like a
nightmare.
Step 1- Practice exams and Pre-exam
notes consolidation.
As the
famous quote goes “Practice makes the man perfect”, we believe even if it does not
make you perfect, it would at least illustrate all ideas where you could
probably lack behind or commit the mistake. So practice more, not to avoid
mistakes but to learn from them.
Step 2- Take the exam rehearsal.
You have come
a long way studying and now it’s time to evaluate yourself more closely. Exam
Rehearsals are for study sessions specifically designed to train you to perform
at your best under test conditions. After your first Exam Rehearsal, you’ll
know EXACTLY what you need to spend your time on next.
Step 3- Exam-specific study sessions.
In such
high time, the goal is to make your studies more specified instead of covering highly
plotted topics. During these super-targeted study sessions, we’re not “just
studying,” but instead putting in a very specific type of practice which makes
active recall of whatever is studied earlier.
Step 4- Take the exam rehearsal again.
Now, at
this point, the exam rehearsal would act as a confidence booster because this
would still offer you the time to trace the existing shortcomings and the areas
you are still struggling with. This would make you confident instead of freaking
out and staying up all night panicking about it.
Step 5- Pre-exam mental prep and
refresh.
Last but
never the least, you need to be mentally relaxed to offer the best of what you
have learnt so far. The exam is right around the corner, and if you’ve followed
the process you now have the luxury of doing some light and quick revision of the
study notes, while at the same time getting yourself mentally prepared for the
test and every conceivable scenario. Keep your mind calm and meditate if
possible. Recall what you have already read, be confident as this would help to
extract the best version of your potential.

to fight, and the only reason a warrior fights is to win. Otherwise, why be a warrior?
