OSCE- Easy tips for MRCOG-Part 3 exam

In our previous blogs, we have talked about MRCOG-3 in which OSCEs are conducted. In this particular exam, the candidates are supposed to undergo a series of structured stations and they are required to carry out different tasks at various stations; such as, at one station the candidate may be required to break bad news to the patient; and at the second station, they may be required to take a history; at the third one to interpret the provided laboratory investigations in the light of a patient’s problem, and so on 14 stations are covered.

At each station, the candidate is required to perform a defined set of tasks as described. The examiner may also ask the candidate a few questions. The candidate needs to perform the required tasks and provide the answers to the questions asked by the examiner. The examiner marks the candidate at the end of each station using a pre-defined mark sheet.

The examiners is required to undergo a training session in order to ensure that their marking is consistent and standardized for all the candidates prior to the examination. There is also a transparent appeals process for candidates who feel that they were unfairly marked for their performance during the examination.

The candidate needs to interact with the role player who acts as a lay examiner and interaction window is for 10 minutes in which they have to build a good rapport and complete the candidate’s tasks within the stipulated time.

Based on candidate’s interaction with the role player (lay examiner), the examiner then gives the total score out of 20 in which 2 marks are in hands of the role player depending upon his/her interaction with the individual candidate.

The following are the easy tricks to clear the Part 3 exam in one go:
