Gear up- 2 months left for MRCOG-3 Exam

To all the candidates appearing for MRCOG-3, this is the best and the most important & crucial time to start with preparation right away. MRCOG-3 is all about testing candidate’s clinical knowledge and communication skills.

At each station, the candidate is required to perform a defined set of tasks as described. The examiner may also ask the candidate a few questions. The candidate needs to perform the required tasks and provide the answers to the questions asked by the examiner. The examiner marks the candidate at the end of each station using a pre-defined mark sheet.

This exam in particular focus on the interaction and making a good rapport with the role player in order to score good and justified marks. Building up interactive session while staying calm without losing cool is the key to success in the Part 3- MRCOG exam.

MRCOG-3 deals in effective communication with the role player in order to design the effective session and completing all tasks and solving role player’s concerns within the time frame.
In the exam, format is either having stations related to role player or related to structured viva i.e. the candidate will have to face questions from the examiner directly. Marks will be given for each question.

There are 14 stations that are covered which are linked to 14 of the knowledge-based modules in the UK obstetrics and gynaecology curriculum. Each candidate needs to undergo 14 stations.

Each station last for about 30 minutes and out of those 30 minutes; 2 minutes are given for role player to go-through the clinical scenario outside the station and after that 10 minutes of role player and candidate’s interaction and the tasks to be undertaken and performed as per the given scenario/station.

Based on candidate’s interaction with the role player (lay examiner), the examiner then gives the total score out of 20 in which 2 marks are in hands of role player depending upon his/her interaction with the individual candidate performing in particular station. Therefore, interaction with the role player becomes very important aspect of scoring and clearing the station.
